Dan has been in the Air Distribution research and design business since 1973, and has a Masters in Business Management from Central Michigan Univ., and a Bachelor in Biology & Physics from Denison University.
Dan has held several positions in the industry, including Owens Corning Fiberglas, Carrier, Titus Environmental Technologies and Krueger, in engineering, marketing and product research roles. Dan has written a number of technical papers and articles on VAV system performance, acoustics, air diffusion, controls and occupant comfort. He was recently Chairman of both ASHRAE Technical and Standards Committees on Thermal Comfort, is a past Chairman of several other related ASHRAE Technical and Standards Committees, as well as ASHRAE Standards, Technical Activities Committee (TAC) & Environmental Health Committees. He received the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in 1993 and the Exceptional Service award in 2007
Dan is currently the Chairman of the AHRI committee on Applied Acoustics (885) and a past member of ISO 205 US Panel on Thermal Comfort. Dan is also a past member of the USGBC TAG on the Indoor Environment.
Dan is a Life member of ASHRAE and was elevated to the grade of ASHRAE Fellow at the Long Beach meeting in 2007, and the ASHRAE Board of Directors as a Director At Large (DAL) in 2014. Dan rolled off the board and Tech Council and Research Activities committees representing the Board, at the June 2017 meeting.

Critical Applications in Gas Fresh Air Heating | The speaker explains how to optimize the use of natural gas heating equipment in applications with variable volume, energy recovery, high air flow and reduced gas capacities. Also, a brief overview of technologies available in fresh air heating with their advantages and limitations, their modulation characteristics and thermal efficiency when used in these applications, will be shown.

Graduated from the University of Ottawa in Mechanical Engineering, Michel-André Lamarche, P. Eng., made his debut in the natural gas industry and ventilation in 1992 as a technical representative at Bousquet Frères Ltée – a distributor of gas equipment. In 2001, he co-founded TEGA technologies, a company that has obtained a patent for a gas modulation technology. Today, VP of Sales at Bousquet Technologies, he works in business development and product improvement.

Gas Sensor Technology & Layout Considerations | In this presentation, current gas sensor technologies will be discussed. Advantages & disadvantages of different elements as well as application considerations for each.
The presentation will also discuss proper layout to ensure adequate sensor coverage for given applications. (i.e. parking garage, refrigerant room, etc.) |

Ronald Sweet is currently the Eastern Regional Sales Manager, North America, for Critical Environment Technologies Canada Inc., a position he has held for the past 13+ years.
Ron holds a degree as an Electronics Engineering Technologist and prior to joining Critical Environment Technologies spent 25 years in the Wireless Telecommunications industry, beginning his career as a field technician and moving up through field service management and service centre management prior to becoming involved in Technical Sales and Technical Sales Management.
In his role with Critical Environment Technologies Canada Inc., as well as managing the day to day sales activities of a Distributor / Dealer network, he is involved with providing applications engineering support and system specifications for consulting engineers, in the fields of gas detection for life safety systems and indoor air quality control applications.

Net Zero Industrial Buildings – A Case Study | This seminar focuses on a 600K+ industrial property which was taken to a net zero standard. Klas will discuss the building envelope, thermal bridges, energy recovery and controls.
Klas received an EBie Award for his efforts on this project. EBie awards are presented for retrofit work to existing buildings resulting in exceptional energy recovery measures.

Klas Haglid, P.E., R.A. is CEO and founder of Haglid Engineering & Associates, Inc. and Building Performance Equipment, Inc. Haglid Engineering is an engineering consulting firm that provides HVAC, mechanical, and structural services for commercial and industrial properties, as well as expert testimony in litigation matters. Building Performance Equipment (BPE) manufactures very high efficiency air-to-air energy recovery equipment.
Klas has served as Chairman of ASHRAE Technical Committee 5.5 Air-to-Air Energy Recovery and Chairman of ASHRAE Technical Committee 7.8 Owning and Operating Costs. As an active member of ASHRAE, he has moderated forums and seminars, presented at several ASHRAE Annual Meetings, and published extensively on issues involving energy recovery and HVAC issues. Klas also holds many patents for systems that combine energy recovery devices with innovative controls. Such technology enables buildings to work more efficiently, thereby reducing owning and operating costs.
Klas Haglid is currently licensed as a Professional Engineer and holds a current National NCEES Record with over 153 Patent Claims approved to date.
