O'Dell delivers a custom air handling unit from ICE that drastically improves efficiency AND facilitates minimal installation time and disruption to facilty operations.  

The Call ...

The air handling unit serving the change rooms at the Chaplin YMCA, in Cambridge, ON, was well beyond it's useful life. (Maybe not to the bee colony that had taken up residence in the heat exchanger?)  The YMCA knew the unit needed to be replaced soon, but, they wanted to be sure that the replacement unit would provide years of trouble free operation & improve operational efficiency. The YMCA had also just installed a new roof and did not want to disturb the work that had been completed. Any replacement unit would have to fit onto the exisiting roof curb and match the supply and return duct connections.  Another challenge was the operational hours of the facility and ensuring the building continued to operate without interuption.  

The Solution ...

O'Dell, working with the owner, engineer & contractor, designed a custom air handling unit to replace the failing unit.  The solution was an ICE HTDM-400DX12 air handling unit.    

Heating is provided by a 409 stainless steel heat exchanger for years of trouble-free operation and efficiencies greater than 80% throughout its firing range.   With a 35:1 turndown ratio, meeting space heating demand is extremely precise.

The cooling meets CAN/CSA C746-06 Class 2 EER levels, the highest in the industry for this style of equipment.  This is accomplished with 2 stages of cooling.  The first stage is a digitally controlled compressor from Copeland and the second stage is a simple on/off control.  Not only does this provide exceptional turndown (20:1) on the cooling, it offers a level of redundancy.   

Armed with the shop drawings from the existing unit & some field measurements, the ICE unit was designed to fit on the existing roof curb exactly.  The benefits of this exact fit were enjoyed by both the owner and the contractor.  The owner enjoyed uninterrupted operation and zero disruption to new roofing materials.  The contractor reduced their installation time to less than one day, minimizing installation costs.
