The Call ...

Stratford Metal Products (SMP) was contacted by Sommers Generator in Tavistock, ON when they were called upon to install a generator in a sea container that was destined for Baffin Island.  What made this project even more interesting?

1.  Physical constraints of a sea container
2.  Complete project had to be installed & commissioned within 3 weeks
3.  The extremely cold temperatures in Baffin Island

The Solution ...

O'Dell provided the equipment and controller for a complete system to provide optimal ventilation and control of the ambient operating conditions for the generator.  

The ventilation system consisted of outdoor, exhaust, recirculating and combustion air dampers.  When the generator is operational, a two postion actuator on the combustion air damper opens to provide the necessary combustion air.  The outdoor and exhaust air dampers are initially in their normally closed position, with the recirculating dampers normally open.  As the generator warms up, the outside, exhaust and recirculating dampers modulate to maintain a desired ambient operating condtion for the generator.  

To meet delivery requirements, O'Dell worked closely with all manufacturers to ensure they could meet the demanding schedule.  Equipment from Tamco, Ventex, Belimo & Viconics was all delivered AHEAD OF SCHEDULE giving Stratford Metal more time on site to complete the installation.
