O’Dell Provides Optimal VRF Solution for Langdon Hall
Langdon Hall, located in Cambridge, Ontario, is part of Relais & Chateux, a global association of prestigious, culinary-focused hotels. With a rich history as a private estate, the facility was transformed into a hotel in 1989.
In 2016, the facility underwent an addition, adding an expansive spa and guest suites. M.A. Bryan Engineering selected LG’s variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology as the building’s heating and cooling solution. O’Dell supported the design, installation and commissioning of the equipment.
The Langdon Hall addition provided spa treatment rooms, retail space, administrative offices and guest suites. This diverse occupancy presented challenges because the comfort demands of each unique space needed to be met. In addition, because the hotel is a world class destination, any solution needed to meet the exacting standards of the clientele. Accordingly, air distribution and sound was a determining factor in system selection.
Working with M.A. Bryan Engineering and Reitzel Heating & Air Conditioning, O’Dell chose LG’s VRF air-source heat pump system. This heat recovery solution was selected because it offers flexibility for each space, regardless of occupancy, to set temperature requirements. Moreover, heat recovery units deliver excellent efficiency by transferring energy throughout the building, thus reducing the total work done by the compressors.
With a vast lineup of indoor unit configurations, we were also able to select the appropriate air-handling solution for optimal performance in each space.
In a recent follow-up meeting with Langdon Hall operations staff, they communicated that the system has delivered excellent performance since installation. Here’s hoping we can test out their Spa treatment rooms at our next visit!
