PennBarry Engineering Trip A Success!
Over a one and a half day course, PennBarry spent the time to host a great course tailored to the consulting engineer. The course covered many aspects of fans and design including fan types and application, fan selection theory, Fan Efficiency Grade (FEG), sound, system effect, and tours of their various testing and engineering facilities among many other topics.
My biggest takeaways were:
- Fan Efficiency Grade (FEG) 67 has been adopted by ASHRAE 90.1-2013, see it in a building code near you in the close future. There is a great article on FEG published in the April 2013 issue of the ASHRAE Journal.
- PennBarry will soon have their own AMCA certified sound testing lab for rapid testing and checking of their own fans and prototypes.
- ECM motors will continue to become more widespread in HVAC applications and PennBarry plans to keep with the times and even drive this trend.
